Here’s what visitors and locals need to know about cannabis consumption in Las Vegas—clearly, accurately, and without the fine-print surprises.

Adults 21 and older may legally purchase and possess cannabis in Nevada, but there are strict rules on where it can be used. The Nevada Cannabis Compliance Board (CCB) states that consumption is permitted only on private property with the owner’s permission or inside a licensed cannabis consumption lounge. Public use—on the Strip, Fremont Street, parks, sidewalks, casinos, hotel rooms, concerts, and festivals—remains illegal. Violations are considered misdemeanors and can carry fines of up to $600.

Possession and purchase limits were expanded beginning January 1, 2024. Adults may now possess up to 2.5 ounces of usable cannabis (flower) and up to one-quarter ounce (7 grams) of concentrated cannabis. These limits are clearly outlined in Nevada state law and enforced by the CCB through dispensary regulations and transaction tracking systems.

Cannabis consumption lounges exist but are still limited in number. State law authorizes lounges that meet ventilation and other safety standards; however, the rollout has been gradual. As of 2025, only a few venues operate legally, such as Planet 13’s “Dazed” lounge, one of the first to receive state licensing. Because availability can change, travelers should always verify which lounges are currently open before making plans.

Consuming cannabis in vehicles remains prohibited—drivers and passengers may not use cannabis in any form while in motion or parked. Cannabis should be treated like an “open container” risk, meaning all purchases should remain sealed and stored out of reach when driving. Driving under the influence of cannabis is illegal under Nevada DUI statutes, and law enforcement takes impairment—of any kind—very seriously.

Hotels, casinos, and most short-term rentals typically ban cannabis use on their premises. Although adult use is legal statewide, gaming establishments remain under federal oversight and therefore maintain strict prohibitions. Property owners, including landlords and homeowners associations, can also establish their own no-use rules. In addition, federal property such as airports, post offices, and nearby recreational areas like Lake Mead remain strictly off-limits to cannabis possession and use.

To stay compliant, consumers should remember the following: buy only from licensed dispensaries; stay within the 2.5-ounce flower or 7-gram concentrate limit; consume only on private property with permission or at licensed lounges; never use cannabis in public or in vehicles; and never drive under the influence. These guidelines form the foundation of Nevada’s adult-use framework and ensure safe, lawful enjoyment of cannabis throughout the Las Vegas area.
